It is Lelia’s (my) responsibility to manage the activities and educational program for children ages birth through sixth grade. This includes policies and procedures for our church nursery, Sunday School program and content for our annual Vacation Bible School. Together with the Children’s Committee, we plan many fun activities for our children and their families including Children’s Choir, our annual Easter Egg Hunt and our fall Trunk or Treat. During the pandemic, we planned drive thru experiences for the children so we could maintain our relationship with these precious young ones! Our Children’s Committee loves our kids and loves seeing them at church learning about God and His love for us!

I was born in Richton, MS in a town named for my great, great grandfather. I grew up going to church with my family. I was involved in children’s activities, then later in youth group, and was an active member of the music program in my home church and my school. After graduating from college and getting married, my husband and I moved to Tennessee where we attended a Presbyterian church for the first time! We have attended Presbyterian churches in Tennessee, Florida and now California. We are happy that our daughter is growing up in First Presbyterian Church and experiencing the care and support of our church family.

Having been a public school teacher for more than 20 years, I am  experienced in planning activities and lessons for children of all ages. My teaching experience has been with students in grades one through eight. I am currently teaching seventh grade English and serving as the English Department Chair at Sierra Vista Junior High School. I earned my Master’s Degree through a private religious based university in Tennessee before we moved to California.
