Van Watch 2000!
Keep your eye on the Van in the Narthex. As we
receive monies towards the purchase of a 15 passenger van,
we'll add passengers. Why do we need a van? Let me
count the ways:
With one rather than many vehicles, it's a much
safer and economical way to go.
Other Church Ministries such as Men's Group, PW,
Hispanic Ministry and Deacons could benefit from a Church
van.
Each time the Pioneer Club or J.C. Followers or
J.Y.G. or V.Y.B.e go somewhere, it's a matter of
coordinating sometimes up to 7 or 8 vehicles. Keeping
everyone together on the freeway and getting to our
destination safely becomes a bit precarious.
Because Vans and SUVs carry the most people, the
owners of these vehicles are the ones who get called on
again and again to chauffeur or at least lend their vehicles
to the outing.
Insurance is a problem, because if an accident
occurs during one of our trips (which has happened), then
it's the generous driver or lender whose insurance gets hit
and possibly raised.
Finding 4 or 6 or 8 different adult drivers who
have the time to give to these events is often times
impossible, so some kids can't go or the event is
cancelled.
Renting a 15-passenger van (because there aren't
many of them and they are in high demand) is not easy (and
it's quite expensive). Usually you have to make arrangements
three months in advance and this isn't practical for a
church that would need such a vehicle 3 or 4 times a
month.
Finally, Paul spent a lot of time studying for,
taking and passing his class B Commercial driver's license,
he likes the power of a V8 under his hood, and talking C.B.
jargon on the road with other long haulers. Do you
copy?
